Summary:

It is assumed that the application of two synthetic chelating agents with different binding abilities during one treatment session results in the binding and mobilisation of a broader spectrum of toxic metals. this is not necessarily the case. Our statistical evaluation of results obtained after the intravenous application of DMPS+ZnDTPA could not prove this. While the combination treatment slightly increased the lead mobilisatiion, mercury binding and excretion was reduced.

This indicates that treating physicians have to carefully evaluate if the combined intravenous application of two powerful chemical agents is warranted.
